The Millbrook Horse Trials (MHT), a recognized United States Eventing Association (USEA) Event, is an important part of a long equestrian tradition in Dutchess County. Recognized among the region's most prestigious annual sporting events, it attracts Olympic-level, world-class competitors from the United States and abroad.
Considered the triathlon of the equestrian world, Eventing is a rapidly growing sport. It includes three equine disciplines: Dressage, Cross Country and Stadium Jumping. MHT provides all recognized levels of competition from USEA Beginner Novice to Advanced level. Proceeds from this event benefit Dutchess Land Conservancy (DLC) whose mission is to preserve rural open space. MHT runs on land protected by the DLC.
The Millbrook Horse Trials' success in attracting over 3000 competitors and spectators is a product of its reputation for presenting a well-organized competitive environment, with expertly designed fences and courses, in a beautifully maintained open landscape. The increasingly popular MHT draws enormous numbers of competitors and supports teams from all over the east coast. MHT Advanced competition attracts Olympic-level horses and riders and considerable press attention. Over 480 horses competed in 2011, our largest and most successful year yet. Advanced riders competed for prize dollars and a chance to impress the USEF Olympic Selection Committee. Competitors have included:
Phillip Dutton – two-time Olympic Gold medal winner
Buck Davidson – Short listed for London Olympics and 2-time MHT winner
Karen O’Conner - Silver Olympic Individual medal and Bronze medal winner
Boyd Martin – World games team member
Leslie Law – Olympic Gold medal winner for the UK
